Nanomedicine
Nanomedicine refers to the application of nanotechnology to improve the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases. Although the primary application was originally in oncology, nanomedicine has witnessed substantial scientific interest and growth beyond chemotherapeutic drug development.Solid Lipid Nanoparticles (SLN)
Solid Lipid Nanoparticles are at the front line of the fast evolving and expanding field of nanotechnology bearing immense prospect for applications in drug delivery, therapeutics and research. SLNPs are novel colloidal delivery systems consisting of a lipid core compatible with living tissue and stabilised by an outer shell of an amphiphilic surfactant with a mean diameter ranging from 50 to 1000 nm. The diameter of most of the clinically approved lipid nanoparticles ranges from 50 nm to 300 nm. SLNPs improve the inherent properties of drugs by recuperating both solubility and permeability thereby enhancing oral bioavailability.
